Visiting Niagara Falls in June: Weather, Tips, Etc.

Niagara Falls in June: Weather

June is a fabulous time to visit Niagara Falls! Daytime temperatures are comfortable for all of the water activities while nighttime temperatures are still warm enough to camp.
In June, daytime temperatures in Niagara Falls hover around 80 degrees while overnight temperatures average around 60 degrees.
Rain could potentially fall during your visit. The area receives about 3 inches of rain throughout the entire month of June.
Niagara Falls in June: Crowds

While summer is the most popular time of year to visit Niagara Falls, June is typically the least crowded of the three summer months!
July and August are usually Niagara Falls’ busiest tourism months.
While avoiding crowds near the falls is inevitable in June, there are some things you could do to lessen the crowds:
- Visit on a rainy day.
- Go early.
- Explore nearby state parks.
- Take a private tour!
Niagara Falls in June: Tips For Your Visit

Embrace the crowds. Since the window to visit Niagara Falls comfortably is so small, crowds are inevitable. Embrace the fact that you’ll be surrounded by hundreds of other people, and you’ll have a better experience.
Prepare to get wet. You’ll get wet on all of the water activities (like boat tours and waterfall excursions), but you could also get wet from the viewing platforms and hiking trails! Spray and mist fly around the park, making the trails slippery and passersby wet.
Bring waterproof gear. I’d recommend using a waterproof action camera like a GoPro to capture the waterfalls. If you’re bringing your phone, make sure to protect it with a waterproof lanyard case. See my packing list later in this post – I share some other handy pieces of gear to have at the falls.
Niagara Falls in June: What to Do

Maid of the Mist Boat Tour + Crow’s Nest! (USA)
The Maid of the Mist boat tour is one of my favorite experiences at Niagara Falls! If you only get to do one tour in Niagara Falls, let it be this one!
With your Maid of the Mist ticket, you get to take a boat ride to the falls and access the two most spectacular viewpoints of Niagara Falls – Crow’s Nest and the Observation Tower.
While you wait for the boat to depart, step out onto the Observation Tower to get the most jaw-dropping views of the falls (from USA land). Since the Observation Tower juts over the Niagara River, you will get a close-up view of the roaring American Falls. You might even feel the mist from the falls!

Once the next boat departs, it’s time to hop in and take the 20-minute ride to the falls. While the boat won’t go directly underneath the falls (the water is far too powerful), the helmsman will take you close enough that you will get SOAKED! The wind from the raging water combined with the intense spray had us shrieking with excitement.

Once you get off the boat, take the series of steps to the Crow’s Nest viewing platform. You’ll be treated to the closest views of American Falls! (Most people on our tour skipped this!) You’ll feel the powerful spray from the second largest of the three falls of Niagara.

Cave of the Winds (USA)
Calling all waterfall enthusiasts! You absolutely must embark on this exciting tour to the base of Bridal Veil Falls! It’s actually less of a tour and more of a “go-at-your-own-pace” self-guided tour, so it’s a must-do.
After buying your ticket, take the elevator down to the gorge. Once the employee gives you a poncho, you are free to roam around the viewing platforms and explore the base of Bridal Veil Falls at your own leisure.

Even though you’ll feel the powerful spray shortly after throwing on your poncho, nothing will compare to what you feel standing directly underneath Bridal Veil Falls. The sheer force of the wind and water will knock you off your feet. Hold onto the railings! It’s wild and exhilarating!
Journey Behind the Falls (Canada)
On this Canada-side adventure, don your yellow poncho and descend 125 feet through rock by elevator. A short tunnel gives access to two outdoor observation decks at the foot of the falls and two cave-like portals located directly behind Horseshoe Falls.
Feel the thunderous vibration of Horseshoe Falls well before you even see them!
Wildplay Zipline to the Falls (Canada)
Experience the thrill of a once-in-a-lifetime zip across Niagara Falls! These tours boast fully-guided, hands-free, and worry-free experiences and are proudly open to any age or skill level. Book your tour on the zipline adventure course now!
See the Falls at Night (Both Sides)
Once it’s dark, head to one of the overlooks and watch the waterfalls transform into a kaleidoscope of bright colors. Hundreds of LED lights in a rainbow of colors shine onto the falls.
It’s truly a sight to see!
Where to Stay in Niagara Falls
If you want to camp near Niagara Falls, I’d recommend pitching your tent or parking your RV/van at Four Mile Creek State Park. This quiet park and campground is just 15 miles from Niagara Falls. Plus some campsites (like ours) face Lake Ontario!

If you want to stay in a hotel, take a look at the map below. It has real-time prices and availability for nearby hotels!
What to Bring to Niagara Falls
- GoPro. Since this action camera is fully waterproof, you can capture footage of the waterfalls even as you’re standing underneath them.
- Phone with waterproof case. Unless you want to keep your phone in the car, I’d recommend getting one of these affordable waterproof cases. This case has an attached lanyard so you’ll never lose your phone.
- Sandals. You’ll want sandals for all the water activities – Cave of the Winds and Maid of the Mist Boat Tour – because you WILL get wet.
- Comfortable walking shoes. Vessis are my go-to casual walking shoes because they’re comfortable AND completely waterproof.
- Waterproof belt bag. This Vessi belt bag is completely waterproof and perfect for your wet excursions.
- Rain jacket or poncho. Ponchos are provided on most of the excursions, but I still brought a rain jacket!
